Isokan Yoruba Magazine, Fall
1996/Winter 1997 , Volume III No. I, Page 8.
From the Editor's Desk, By Hakeem P.
Fahm.
Apologies to our readers for taking this long
to bring this edition to market. Please bear with us and you'll
find the wait worthwhile. As you can see, the magazine has a new
name 'Isokan Yoruba Magazine'. The change was suggested over a
year ago but we decided to wait until this time to implement it.
As always, we will continue to bring incisive and thought
provoking articles on Yoruba Culture and Nigeria.
In September 1996, Egbe Isokan Yoruba held its
third election and by acclamation, Dr. Ropo Sekoni was
elected as the President of the organization. Dr. Sekoni was the
chairman of Political and Leadership committee. He takes over
from Dr. Segun Gbadegesin who presided over the
organization for the past two years. Mr. Kehinde Dawodu
was elected as the Vice President and Dapo Olorunyomi as
the Secretary. A list of all elected officers is on page three.
Today's information distribution calls for a
multimedia approach that can deliver text, audio, video, still
images and accommodate rapid changes. We at Isokan Yoruba
Magazine understand that your information needs are constantly
changing and no one medium will satisfy these needs. To address
this, we have to become more proactive, poised for change, and
remain focused on our goals. To this end, we have added the
Internet as one of the media for disseminating information to
you. The site is still under construction, but we expect to be
fully operational by February. But don't wait until then, visit
us now at The Yoruba Page: HTTP://WWW.YORUBA.ORG/
and let us know what you think.
It was during the preparation of this issue
that I received sad news about the death of my mother Alhaja
Nusirat Aweni Fahm Baruwa. She was survived by her
husband and five children (See page 49). She died on November
14th, 1996 after a battle with cancer and was buried the
following day according to Muslim rites. The love, discipline,
guidance, support and affection we got from her remains with us
till today. She will be missed dearly. May her soul rest in
peace. Sun re o, Folashade omo Sanni Arewa.
